IF people walk away because of the server those are the good ones to let go. Then you wouldn't really be 16agr or a team player, more like a server groupieJester wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2017 6:29 pmI gotta defend the Mirage here... The 530 is faster than other missiles so if you fox 1 from the same range all things being equal the Mirage will get the kill. But it is extremely easy to notch the mirage and my missiles get trashed more often than not. It's also very susceptible to ground clutter so if someone is below me most of the time I lose them until there in fox 2 range. I'm fine with making it a long flight to get to the fight so people won't be so cavalier and actually have to run to avoid getting shot down sometimes. But I really don't want to end up fighting over one of only a couple mirage slots. It's bad enough that its frequently hard just to get a spot in the server.
As to the greater problem... Well it's great that the reapers force us to work together when they're not up to some shenanigans, however a lot of people won't coordinate because there just hopping on for a short time to do the role they personally find enjoyable. If that's flying an A-10 or a helo they probably jump to blue because that's the only way they can do it. Or we end up with rando's who don't get on teamspeak.
I could be wrong but I see the server as being for a more casual less serious level of play and the problem is reapers are requiring us to put in an organized event level of skill/coordination/dedication. I would like our leadership to ask the reapers for a commitment to balance teams since they seem to enjoy playing on our server. Otherwise they're more griefers than reapers.
Also I'd like to say I appreciate all the effort Drex puts into this server. I don't mean for any of this to be critical of him but there really is an issue in this group right now and I'd much rather see it addressed than people walk away.
EDIT: Drex posted while I was typing this,
Thank you Drex for what you do. I think our issues are human and not server side. But I love your idea of csar and cap lives if you can make it work!

I'm just tired of the whole thing man.
I'm not trying to hurt anybody's feelings.. people don't need to be in the squad to play on the server or use our comms.. my point is this: If someone is in the squad and joined solely because of the server needs to rethink why they joined us..

Don't get me wrong, I do miss being able to look at my own aircraft. I didn't realize how much I did it until the view was gone. However, far too many people were using the external views to get an upper hand on the opposition. Using external views to see where people are, to get type, quantity and location of defenses at a base, where helo's are hiding, etc., that's why we lost external views. Too many people were using them to cheat rather than to enjoy the view. Going to F12 and going max zoom... that's just BS tactics. I don't like trailing the missile either with F6; you can get a lot of information on where things are by doing so. And lets be honest, you certainly couldn't do it in reality. If you want realism, the most realistic we can get is to leave externals off.
I'd love to see some externals back (F2 and F3). Problem is, ED doesn't allow us to pick and choose. It's all or nothing. If you want your externals, I suggest posting on the ED forums. Let them know you want to be able to pick and choose which views to allow. People need to start voicing to ED instead of Drex.

- Drex is working within an extremely hostile environment as regards ED, as I do to whenever I try and code anything. The api is really hard and very poorly documented. The fact that he has achieved so much with so little is a huge credit to him and we should both admire his coding skills and his dedication and determination
- I am a big believer in BlueFor having Western units and RedFor having Warsaw Pact units (showing my age!). For example, I hate flying a Blue F-15 and having to work out whether or not the M2K RWR is friendly or bandit.
- As Rumsfeld said, you got to war with the army you've got. The NATO planes have their advantages - radar and the S530 and the Warsaw Pact planes have theirs: IRST and datalink from EWR/AWACS
- I agree with all here that the AIM-120 is a game killer as it is so superior to any other missile in the game, and from speaking with others I would agree that the 58U anti-radiation missile would fall into the same category and should also be banned
- As regards the Reapers: I gather that they have at times exhibited unsportsmanlike behaviours. However, the main issue is that they both join and fighjt as a group. As 16AGR, we should man up, and do the same, only better, such that we win.
I am as guilty as everyone else in terms of lone wolf fighting. I am no longer doing this.
If we need two/four ship training, then we have a unique resource in Windy, who is offering to train us up in, based on his RAF experience. My guess is the REAPERS don't have a former USAF or USN IP on their team. We have the advantage!
If I do not have wingman/men, then I am not going up, other than for BaseCAP!

Being primarily a ground pounder that spends a fair amount of time on the 104th, I really love the last set of changes. I like the lack of external views since it gives the sim more realism during a fight and being primarily a hog driver, limiting CAP makes it far more enjoyable for me. I'm okay with going to another server if I want external views. Yeah, yeah...I'm guilty of going to the aerobatics server too.
All personal preferences aside, a lot these frustrations seem to be coming from a breakdown of teamwork like Durham and Madbrood said. I'm also guilty of going it alone in a hog with no CAP because that's what I'm most comfortable flying, but lately I've been working on my helo and sling-loading in order to have some options when CAP is slim. Sick and tired of getting shot down all the time, but that's on me since I was going up unprotected and all. Lesson learned.
Was on the other night with a group of guys and Hicks and as Tony Robbins-y as it was, Hicks was on to something. He was encouraging us to make a plan and work together and you know what, it worked. We captured a few bases really quick on Red.
Anyway, love that you guys are so passionate about this. If life wasn't getting in the way at the moment (dad of two-year-old twins here), I would've continued pursuing you joining you guys long term. Maybe when things settle down a bit, I'll push for that 16AGR tag.
Drex, keep it up. You're doing some good work here. Growing pains sure are tough though.
